Kilwins Reopens in Babylon Village with New Owners

Kilwins is Back: Chemist and Pharmacist Duo Reopen Beloved Babylon Village Sweets Shop

A sweet new chapter for the Deer Park Avenue favorite brings back classic fudge and ice cream with a fresh, scientific approach and lower prices.

That familiar, sweet aroma is wafting through Babylon Village once again.

Kilwins, a downtown institution, has officially reopened its doors at 130 Deer Park Avenue, ending a period of uncertainty for local sweets lovers.

This is not just a simple reopening; it's a complete reimagining led by a truly unexpected pair.

Meet Teja and Manimalika Tunuguntla, a couple from Commack whose professional lives were rooted in labs and pharmacies, not kitchens.

Teja is a chemist by trade, and Manimalika is a pharmacist.

Their love for Babylon Village and its vibrant atmosphere led them to take a leap of faith when they saw the beloved local business was closed.

“We used to go to Babylon all the time, we love it here,” Teja explained.

They saw an opportunity and seized it, bringing a unique precision to the art of candy making.

“There’s almost a science to it,” Manimalika noted, reflecting on the process of creating the perfect caramel apple.

After taking over in July, the couple quickly got to work with a light renovation and, in a move that signals their commitment to the community, rehired the shop's original employees.

Perhaps the most welcome change for returning customers has been the prices.

The Tunuguntlas have lowered prices across their selection of fudge, chocolates, and ice cream.

“We feel so welcomed here,” Teja said of the community's enthusiastic response.

To celebrate this new beginning, a grand opening event is planned for Saturday, August 30, promising plenty of samples for everyone to enjoy.

This revival of a cherished local business injects fresh energy into the heart of downtown Babylon, proving that even the sweetest traditions can benefit from a little bit of science.
