September 2, 2025 – Babylon Village, NY
Mayor Mary E. Adams announced the news with a heartfelt message to residents, reflecting on Goodwin’s dedication, kindness, and love for the community he called home.
A Life of Service to Babylon Village
Sean Goodwin’s commitment to Babylon Village was both tireless and personal. Despite undergoing treatment after his diagnosis earlier this year, he remained a visible and active presence in Village government—attending ribbon cuttings, parades, meetings, and community events. Less than two weeks before his passing, he was working with the Babylon Beautification Society to redesign plantings at the Village Gazebo and celebrating the opening of the new Museum of Miniature Art (MOMA) at the Historical Society and Conklin House.
Goodwin’s passion for history was especially evident in his work at The Conklin House, where he collaborated with the Steering Committee to preserve and maintain the historic landmark. In July, he helped lead the successful Village Soirée fundraiser, ensuring the Conklin House continues to thrive as a centerpiece of Babylon’s heritage.
Committees, Causes, and Community Spirit
Sean’s work reached across many aspects of Village life. He served as:
Prior to his appointment as Trustee, Sean was involved with the Village greenhouse and served on the Planning Board Committee.
Mayor Adams emphasized that Goodwin’s service was never about ego or recognition, but about doing meaningful work for the Village he loved. “He would often say he had to pinch himself, because he still couldn’t believe he was appointed and elected to a Village Trustee position,” she recalled. A Beloved Neighbor and Friend
Beyond official duties, Sean Goodwin was cherished by residents for his warmth, humor, and generosity. He frequented Babylon’s downtown restaurants and shops, building personal connections with business owners. He attended library programs with his mother, was a regular at St. Joseph’s Church, and was known for bringing desserts from Torta Fina to cheer friends during tough times.
Friends and neighbors remembered him as someone who knew how to dress, dance, laugh, and lift others’ spirits. “At times, he was just the person you needed to be at your side,” said Mayor Adams, “and you were always happy to see his beautiful face.”
Honoring His Memory
In Sean Goodwin’s honor, Village flags will fly at half-mast. Mayor Adams asked residents to keep his husband, Charles, as well as his mother and two sisters, in their prayers.
“Sean served our Village and our Village residents with dedication, loyalty and love,” Adams said. “Heaven gained an angel today, and the Village of Babylon lost a beautiful soul.”
Funeral service details will be shared when available.
✨ Babylon Local joins the community in expressing deepest condolences to Sean’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness and dedication. |
